Fate/stay night is a truly cult visual novel, released back in 2004. And only last year it was completely filmed on the screen, which cannot but indicate how huge it is, although this may be due to the unsuccessful film adaptations of Deen, but that doesn’t matter. Another important thing is that clearly such a phenomenon could not but have continuation and branches. And this sequel came out, but fans still don’t fully understand what it is, so I’ll try to explain to you what I understood after spending 150 hours on Fate/hollow ataraxia.
And yes, before getting acquainted with this blog, I advise you to read the original, or at least read the review of it on blogs. Well, a little about the branches.
this is the shortest and most understandable explanation of the main implications of Fate. I don’t know who made it, but he is definitely a genius because he fit the whole hell of the franchise into a picture of 640×819 pixels.
But all this is not interesting to us since we will be talking about Fate/hollow ataraxia, which was released in 2005, which means that for us there are no other feits except two and therefore I will only mention them.
Well, if you suddenly want to see a graph with the chronology of each branch, then also the complete chronology of the feat. So what happened here?.
And in general, it’s advisable to watch this if you understand Fate at least a little bit, because otherwise half of the roflof will pass you by. And specifically regarding hollow ataraxia, for which we have gathered here, there is not much that is said there and its main idea is a little misunderstood, and it will also contradict, so I recommend reading the article, and then going to watch it, if you really need it.
False calm
Fate/hollow ataraxia is a visual novel released by type moon in 2005 and is a direct continuation of the actions of Fate/stay night. Well, straight forward, FSN is divided into three main routes and each of them ends with its own ending, and in all three cases true. This means that you probably need to continue with some specific ending, or even better, come up with a new true-true ending. And fortunately, not one of these methods became the one to combine the narratives of FSN and FHA, and to merge them, the authors decided to take another unique method of how to continue three endings at the same time, but this method is said much later in the game and at first it seems that the authors simply gave up on them.
The game takes place in the same city of Fuyuki, half a year has passed since the end of the war for the Holy Grail and everyone lives a quiet, calm life. The story is narrated by the same Emiya Shirou, who has clearly changed since the events of FSN, but basically remains the same. He is also surrounded by all the same characters that surrounded him. The only problem with this idyll is that Shiro dies after four days.
Live, live, live and die
The player’s gameplay consists of going through these four days over and over again. An endless cycle in which we will look for answers to our questions. And a lot of questions about the game are asked, but what can we say if the game just throws the game into this world at the beginning and doesn’t say anything about it at all. And by further study of this world we will find out everything that happens in it.
In turn, the player is provided with a city map with key places where the main actions will take place, such as Shira’s estate, school or church, etc. d. And in these places stories with certain characters will appear. Most often it will be some kind of everyday life from the life of Shira and his circle. And in some of them there will be just a hint about what is happening around. The most significant clues found will be displayed by the game itself and they will be called flags. These same flags will move the plot forward.
This is what the city https://nonukgamblingsites.co.uk/review/slots-amigo/ map looks like, as well as a list of found flags. As you progress through the game, new places on the map and even new locations will open up.

And this is all that distinguishes Fate/hollow ataraxia from Fate/stay night, and, in principle, about other visual novels. That is, this is not a straight line of narration, and sometimes it is like tree branches diverging into different routes, but all going straight, and this is a search for answers to what is happening around by looking for these same answers from a bunch of different stories, which, by the way, can come out in one short, integral storyline. As for me, the authors from type moon managed to convey this best: as a player, you ask questions yourself and find them. Such a kind of detective story that in principle it looks fresh in the genre of visual novels even now.
In principle, this will be your occupation for 150 hours, until you watch everything 100% and discover the true ending with a happy ending. And during these 150 hours you will learn everything and even more that you wanted to know about the characters. Fate/hollow ataraxia tells you almost everything you can know about the characters in Fate/stay night. You know these additional materials on different universes, which describe all the small things that the characters do, so this is what they did with type moon with a sequel. They stuffed it almost like every character sneezes. Obviously, this is an exaggeration, but judging by the fact that in one of the plots the girls got drunk on some kind of incomprehensible elixir and began to parody their totem animals, it seems to me that I’m not going too far too far. And if you are the same meticulous person who wants to know everything, then this game is a treasure trove for you.
True, the whole interest lies elsewhere, because everything that I described above is not the main, secondary plot, but we will spend a lot of time on it, by the way, this will also be necessary for the concept of the finale, but everything is absolutely not important, and the main storyline will be devoted to completely different characters, which is not surprising, new to the franchise.
True ataraxia
As I said earlier, the main plot revolves around three new characters. These characters have their own history that almost does not intersect with the events of Shira and it seems to run parallel. So let’s finally get down to specifics.
Bazett Fraga McRemitz
Bazett is the main character of Fate/hollow ataraxia, and in principle the whole game is dedicated to her. Having died behind the scenes of Fate/stay night, she was revived somehow, and also became locked in a four-day cycle. But at the same time she is the main participant in the war for the Holy Grail. What kind of war, of course, is not said, but judging by the participants, it’s still the same fifth war.
Being physically well-developed and possessing combat skills, Bazett makes herself a fighting unit in this war for the Holy Grail. Therefore, it is not surprising that she was chosen as the master in this war.
Although Bazett remembers little about himself and generally has little idea about what is happening around him. She woke up after agony in some house, where she would later have her refuge, and her only thing to maintain contact with the outside world was the dark silhouette, constantly in the shadows, of a young man who says that he is her Servant, for the war for the Holy Grail.
Avenger
He is Angra Mainyu, a young guy who lived in his village, but became the embodiment of all the evil of the world. Well, as it happened, the villagers chose him at random and made him a scapegoat for all the hardships happening in the village. And after long and painful bullying from everyone, literally everyone, because he is the embodiment of ALL evil, which means everyone blames him, he himself accepts it.
He was mentioned in the third Fate/stay night route, but he was not allowed to be recreated. In fate/hollow ataraxia, he is an Avenger-class servant, and Bazett is his master. The contract concluded between him and the master, according to him, satisfies the desire of both parties. On Bazett’s part it is the desire to survive and therefore she does not die even if she is killed. What this contract gives Avenger is not said. And Avenger is one of the few characters who really understands what is happening around him. And keeping it in his personal interests, he clearly does not want to reveal everything.
Although Avenger is the rarest class, in fact he is the weakest servant. Although even so he is stronger than most people. Therefore, he is not really a useless servant.
These two characters, as opposed to Shira’s daytime adventures, take place at night. And the stories of these characters are told with the beginning of each new chapter. The chapter ends with the finding of the desired flag, and therefore the end of the main story arc, which explains one of the main issues.
Karen Ortensia
The last of the new characters is Karen, and she appears in the story for about 2/3 of the game, although she will appear whenever Shira dies. At some point, Shira realizes that she can give answers to questions about what is happening and finds a way to save her, by the way, very difficult and a lot of cyclically expensive. And it really is the key to unraveling many secrets.
Karen herself is an exorcist who came to Fuyuki to replace Kirei Kotomine, by the way the only dead character from Fate/stay night until a replacement is found for him.
She usually wears regular church clothes. But for her main exorcism tasks she wears her work clothes. Work clothes are a tight suit without a skirt and stockings over tights. Isn’t it surprising that such a provocative costume is the easiest way to make the demon in a person show itself?.
She is strange in character, seemingly church-like, quiet, calm, communicates monotonously, but at the same time is somehow aggressive without aggression towards the person speaking to her. And in principle, she is rude in her actions and this is surprising because she plays smooth and melodic music on the organ.
Still not clear
As I said at the beginning, I will try to explain to you what Fate/hollow ataraxia is, but everything that was above did not answer this question, but said something branched off and seems to be on topic, something is not right. Surprisingly, this is what Fate/hollow ataraxia is all about. Something incomprehensible, something little related to the previous parts, something unnecessary. A sequel that is not a sequel. For some reason everything is calm, although it shouldn’t be. Why watch a bunch of everyday moments, although the thing is not about them?. And other incomprehensible things.
But you like these everyday things. You’ll learn something new about the characters you love with Fate/stay nigh. You will gradually learn about new characters. And with each new cycle for you, the previously tangled tangle turns into one straight line, where absolutely everything falls into place.
This is what makes Fate/hollow ataraxia unique in its genre. She asks questions without using question marks. And he answers them not directly, but through stories. And from all this it becomes a visual novel with a lively plot. Or, more precisely, a living story told through a visual novel.
Well, what about my opinion on Fate/hollow ataraxia. I consider it a masterpiece because of its uniqueness. The authors really wanted to do something unusual, and probably still want to if you look at all future projects. Of course, you can take the path of least resistance and make a continuation, taking the old and adding something new. But they chose a path that made Fate/hollow ataraxia incomprehensible to most people. Oddly enough, it even became symbolic and suits her perfectly. But I’ll just say that I really like this approach to creativity.
